Yahoo Hijacks your Browser

Some wireless networks hijack your HTTP connections when you first join them, in order to demand authentication or simply to try to make you agree to terms of use. HTTPS pages are protected against this type of hijacking, which is as it should be. If you go to a website that isn’t protected by HTTPS Everywhere (currently, yahoo.com is one such site) that will allow your browser to be hijacked and if the https-everywhere extension is install, you cannot login.

The Sleuth Kit (TSK) is a library and collection of command line tools that allow you to investigate disk images. The core functionality of TSK allows you to analyze volume and file system data. The plug-in framework allows you to incorporate additional modules to analyze file contents and build automated systems. Microsoft Patent War

Some Motorola Mobility smartphones infringe on a Microsoft patent and will be barred from importation in to the United States, a U.S. trade panel said on Friday.

The order by the U.S. International Trade Commission has been sent to President Barack Obama, who has 60 days to consider whether to overturn it for policy reasons.

The legal fight at the ITC is one of dozens globally between various smartphone makers over which company’s operating system will prevail. Google’s Android system has become the top-selling smartphone operating system, ahead mobile systems by Apple, Microsoft, Research in Motion and others.

The ITC order did not say which models of smartphone were affected but Microsoft has asked for the following devices to be stopped at the U.S. border: the Atrix, Backflip, Bravo, Charm, Cliq, Cliq 2, Cliq XT, Defy, Devour, Droid 2, Droid 2 Global, Droid Pro, Droid X, Droid X2, Flipout, Flipside, Spice and the Xoom tablet.

The patented technology at issue makes it possible for users to generate meeting requests and schedule meetings using their mobile devices.

Motorola Mobility, which is in the process of being acquired by Google, said the company would not feel any near-term impact.

Hiren’s BootCD

Hiren’s BootCD (also known as HBCD) is a bootable software CD containing a number of diagnostic programs such as partitioning agents, system performance benchmarks, disk cloning and imaging tools, data recovery tools, MBR tools, BIOS tools, and many others for fixing various computer problems. Many people consider HBCD an invaluable tool for use in troubleshooting and recovery of computers; however, due to a questionable past, it has received little press.

As it is bootable, the operating system of the computer need not be available for the tools to be usable. All that is required is that the computer is able to run Microsoft Windows and Linux (but it does not have to have either of these installed at the time of use). Some of the tools are also available when the operating system is already started.

Antivirus false positives
The files downloaded from our website are NOT edited, they are the original files. The most common files we are getting reports are “HBCDMenu.exe, HBCDCustomizer.exe, R-Kill.com, konboot.gz”. Please note, they do NOT contain a virus. If you are getting a virus warning, that is a false positive. Please report the file as a false positive via your antivirus software. During that time you should disable your antivirus or add the related file to your antivirus software’s exceptions list for a problem free use.

Resetting Windows Password

Tested on: NT 3.51, NT 4 (all versions and SPs), Windows 2000 (all versions & SPs), Windows XP (all versions, also SP2 and SP3), Windows Server 2003 (all SPs), Windows Vista 32 and 64 bit (SP1 also), Window 7 (all variants). Some also say that it works on Windows Server 2008 too.

If used on users that have EFS encrypted files, and the system is XP or Vista, all encrypted files for that user will be UNREADABLE! and cannot be recovered unless you remember the old password again. If you don’t know if you have encrypted files or not, you most likely don’t have them (except maybe on corporate systems).

Boot your computer with Hiren’s BootCD and follow the steps below for resetting your password:

Active China Hackers

China hackers have been very active lately.  If you have access to your DSL router logs, take a look at the incoming connections.  My box shows several different IP addresses scanning or trying to connect to different ports, mostly from China – CHINANET ISP in Beijing.  These scans could be random hackers or the Chinese government, who knows, but they are actively searching for connections on Windows Terminal Server ports as well as open proxy ports.  It’s an all-out cyber-war going on right now!
